Simulation based reliability assessment of a semiconductor laser

The scope of this PhD thesis is to understand, to model and to predict oxidation related defect generation and defect propagation in GaAlAs based Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSEL). The goal is to enable simulation based lifetime predictions, and thereby optimizing the trade- off between performance and reliability of a VCSEL. This is a requirement for the development of next generation VCSELs which can emit ultra- short light pulses.
