Spintronics, especially semiconductor spintronics, has evolved into a flourishing multi-disciplinary field. Spin properties in bulk and low dimensional semiconductors (quantum wells and quantum dots) are being actively pursued and novel ferromagnetic semiconductors are being discovered for spintronics applications. I will discuss the funda-mental concepts as well as recent developments in the field, present challenges and open questions, and describe results from our research on ferromagnetic resonant diodes and spin-orbit coupling at ferromagnetic-metal/semiconductor interfaces.
