The PIEDMONS (Portable Ion Entangling Devices for Mobile-Oriented Next-generation Semiconductor-technologies) project is a collaboration between Infineon, University of Innsbruck, and ETH Zurich. The project will explore quantum computation technologies for applications in atomic clocks, inertia sensors, quantum computation and quantum cryptography. Two TU Graz students are employed by Infineon to design a low temperature digital-to-analog (DAC) converter for this project. I will talk generally about quantum computation to put the DAC subproject in context.
