Spin transport is a topic of relevance to a broad range of research areas, extending from condensed matter physics to that of cold atomic gases, and from basic science to information technology. In this context pure spin transport without charge transport is a particular twist, which has fueled the interest into the transport properties of insulating quantum magnets over the last decade and most noteworthy in low dimensions. In this seminar I will describe various aspects of this transport in quantum spin-chains and spin-ladders, focusing on questions of dissipation for spin and thermal transport, low-frequency behavior of transport coefficients, and magnetic-field induced phenomena.
