 Determining the thin film structure of a Metal-Organic Framework

Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) consist of metal nodes connected by organic linkers. These building blocks typically assemble into open porous structures. However, when the same building blocks are confined to a thin layer, they can assemble into a nonporous structure. In a report in Advanced Functional Materials with the title Resolving the Cu(bdc) Conundrum: Identifying Non-Porous Packing of Prototypical Coordination-Network Thin Films Combining Advanced Diffraction Techniques and Computational Modelling, a team from the Institute of Solid State Physics describe how they determined the structure of a MOF thin film. This work was featured in an article in der Standard.
