Thin film structure of phenyl-BTBT molecules

Derivatives of the molecule benzothieno-benzothiophenes (BTBT) are promising candidates for application in organic electronics. The molecule phenyl-BTBT-dodecyl is a prominent representative of this material class with charge transport mobility up to 10 cm^2/Vs. Thin films are central parts of transistors and structural properties are key parameters for a successful application. This work will be focussed on the chracaterisation of the crystalline properties and the morphology of phenyl-BRBT molecules by X-ray reflectivity and X-ray diffraction. Films starting from a monolayer coverage of a silicon substrate up to device relevant thicknesses will be investigated.

The candidate will lean to operate state of the art laboratory machines for data acquisition and the related evaluation of the data by different software packages. The work is performed in close collaboration with the company Anton Paar
