Engineers without borders in Austria (Ingenieure ohne Grenzen – IoG) focus their work on developing cooperation in the areas of engineering, technical education and science throughout the world. The objective of IoG lies in helping people in our partner countries increase their quality of life by introducing simple and robust engineering solutions to improve elementary infrastructure (e. g. construction of wells, small solar energy plants, buildings and bridges).

Besides assisting with the planning and construction of engineering solutions, active transfer of know-how and technology in connection with the implemented solutions is one of IoG’s main aims. This ensures long-term and sustainable use and future development. IoG work closely with local people and cooperation partners to guarantee that the best solutions are found for the users and that high acceptance and added value are achieved in the project area.

In connection with our work in the partner countries, the work of IoG includes education of people in Austria in regard to bringing the situations of people around the world to their attention and allowing an increased awareness of their conditions and possibilities to improve those. IoG is composed of many volunteers from different areas of expertise, who work closely together in interdisciplinary teams to achieve sustainable solutions.

The focus of the presentation will be to introduce the work of volunteers in an organization such as IoG, how people from different fields of expertise work together in interdisciplinary teams to achieve set goals and what kind of projects IoG has been and is involved in.
