Polymorph screening on surfaces applied to anthraquinone Polymorphism describes the existence of crystals with different structures but the same molecular composition. In order to find new polymorphs a method called polymorph screening is well established in pharmaceutics. For this work the procedure of polymorph screening was adapted to crystallization on surfaces and applied to the molecule anthraquinone, an aromatic compound with only a single polymorphic phase known so far. Anthraquinone thin films were prepared via solution processing techniques and conditions like solvent, substrate, concentration and temperature systematically varied. The properties of the fabricated films were characterized via optical microscopy, specular X-ray diffraction and pole figure measurements. |
